Royals Target Batting Redemption After Opening Collapse
Sudurpaschim Royals enter Wednesday evening rooted to the foot of the points table following a difficult Monday curtain-raiser against reigning champions Lumbini Lions. On that occasion, the Royals batting order crumbled against seamers Kishore Mahato and Sher Malla, tumbling to 87 all out in 17.2 overs before Lumbini chased down the target in just 9.5 overs.
That heavy loss severely dented Sudurpaschim’s net run rate, putting immediate pressure on talismanic captain Dipendra Singh Airee. Backed by overseas recruits Sherfane Rutherford and Fabian Allen alongside veteran wicketkeeper Binod Bhandari and death bowler Abhinash Bohara, the Royals will look to post an imposing total on a Kirtipur pitch that has favored fast bowling in the first three matches.
Bhurtel’s Avengers Eye Maiden Triumph Over Royals
Conversely, Pokhara Avengers arrive in Kirtipur brimming with fresh energy and determination. Having missed out on the four-franchise playoff stages in both 2024 and 2025, the Avengers management revamped their roster during the off-season. Under the astute captaincy of aggressive national team opener Kushal Bhurtel, Pokhara seek their first-ever NPL victory over Sudurpaschim after dropping head-to-head encounters across both previous editions.
Pokhara’s batting core has been fortified with marquee overseas additions designed to combat spin in the middle overs, while their pace battery aims to exploit the cool evening conditions. Meteorological forecasts in Kirtipur project clear skies and temperatures hovering near 16 degrees Celsius by second innings—ideal bowling conditions that saw Chitwan defend 157 and Karnali defend 132 on Tuesday.
